Thinking of a move to Arkansas?
As an Arkansas and Oklahoma REALTOR, it’s my honor to assist my clients in achieving their real estate dreams in this gorgeous region. I’m passionate about the beauty and allure of Arkansas and have written an article about why it’s a fabulous place to call home.
However, to fulfill my duty as an honest REALTOR, I must also reveal the flip side and share a few reasons why Arkansas may not be the perfect fit for you.
Don’t move to Arkansas if…
1. You Hate Mosquitoes
If you hate mosquitoes (and don’t we all?), there will be seasons that you may not enjoy Arkansas quite as much.
Mosquitoes are a common sight in Arkansas, especially during the warmer months. These pesky insects thrive in the humid climate and can be found in abundance in areas with standing water, such as ponds and marshes.
Insect repellant will be your saving grace if you decide to move to Arkansas despite these little beasts.
2. you like the weather to stay consistent
If you need consistent weather, you should not move to Arkansas.
Arkansas is not known for its consistent weather. Temperatures can easily shift 30 degrees on any given day. During the early times of fall, it’s not uncommon to have the heat on in the morning, the windows open by midday, and then crank on the AC in the evening.
It is also not uncommon to experience all 4 seasons in a single week.
This unpredictable weather pattern can make it challenging to plan outdoor activities or even decide what to wear for the day. It’s always a good idea to check the forecast multiple times throughout the day and be prepared for sudden changes. Despite the weather challenges, Arkansas is a beautiful state with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy.
3. You hate scenic drives
If you hate scenic drives, you should not move to Arkansas.
Arkansas towns are often dispersed, so if you opt to purchase a farmhouse with some land, be prepared to take a good drive for groceries, gas, and other necessities. And you may have to travel for an hour or so to get to the nearest shopping center.
The upside is that the majority of the time, you will be treated to awe-inspiring views while en route. The Ozark Mountains in the northwest corner of the state offer particularly stunning drives. If you don’t appreciate scenic drives, Arkansas may not be the right place for you.
4. You love the ocean
Well, let’s face the facts, Arkansas is smack dab in the middle of the country, so all you ocean aficionados might be out of luck. But, if mountains and rivers make your heart skip a beat, we’ve got you covered!
5. You dislike wildlife
If you hate wildlife, you should not move to Arkansas.
Have you ever heard the phrase “Watch out for deer!” in Arkansas? It’s a humorous way of saying “Goodbye, I love you” in the state. However, there is some truth to this phrase as you may come across wildlife on almost any road in Arkansas.
The usual small rodents seen on the roads include squirrels, skunks, armadillos, and possums. The larger wildlife includes the abundant deer population.
6. the word “Y’all” makes you cringe
It’s Arkansas. I promise you will hear the word “y’all” multiple times a day.
7. You love attending professional sporting effects
Arkansas is a bit dry in the professional sports pool.
While the state of Arkansas may not have any professional sports teams of its own, that does not stop the residents from supporting their favorite teams from neighboring states. Many Arkansans root for the Dallas Cowboys or the Kansas City Chiefs in football, the Memphis Grizzlies in basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals or the Texas Rangers in baseball. Additionally, there are minor league teams within the state such as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, a Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
Despite not having any major professional sports teams to call their own, the passion and love for sports in Arkansas runs deep. The northwest corner of the state
In the northwest corner of Arkansas, Razorback fans reign supreme. Regardless of the outcome, these fans remain devoted to their team.
